Building connected technology is a sequence of engineering choices: what to sense, how to power it, how to communicate and how to operate it over time. A successful prototype is a useful starting point, but reliability, security and maintainability need deliberate testing.

A reproducible logger worksheet

Choose one board, one sensor and one output format. State the measurement, units and sampling interval. Begin with a local output you can inspect before adding dashboards or cloud accounts.

  1. Check the exact board and sensor documentation, electrical limits and pin assignments. Keep the wiring diagram with the project.

  2. Record toolchain, board package and library versions, configuration and build instructions. Keep credentials outside shared source.

  3. Save sample output for normal operation and a disconnected sensor. Check timestamps and behaviour after a restart before expanding the project.

Interpret the result

Ask another person to rebuild from the instructions or deliberately restore a clean setup yourself. A successful upload is one step; reproducibility also needs configuration, data interpretation and a recoverable starting point.

Keep a decision record

Save the requirement, exact models and versions, assumptions, observations, failures and next decision. Distinguish a documented specification from your own observed result. Leave unknown values unassessed rather than filling them with a score.
