AI and IoT: from a prediction to a bounded decision
AI can interpret connected-device data, but a prediction is one step in a larger system. The sensor, data transport, model version, permissions and response process all affect the result.
Separate observation, inference and action
Describe what was measured, what the model estimates and what may happen next. For a proposed inspection assistant, an image is the observation, a defect label is an inference and a person's review is an action. These should have separate records and acceptance criteria.
Evaluate representative cases
Keep evaluation examples separate from model development. Include the conditions that matter in use: lighting, missing fields, changing equipment and unusual cases. Average accuracy can hide an important class of failure, so record missed cases, false alarms and uncertain results.
Place processing deliberately
Choose device, edge or cloud processing around delay, data permissions, power and maintenance. A local model still needs version management and a recoverable host. A remote service adds access, service-use and connectivity dependencies.
Bound the response
Set the actions a system is permitted to take and identify those needing human approval. Define what happens when confidence is low, input data is stale or a service changes. A powerful model is not a reason to give an application unrestricted control.
Keep the outcome measurable
Compare the proposed process with the current one, including review effort and missed events. Record the model, configuration, sources and limitations alongside any conclusion. Use the existing uncertainty worksheet to plan a small evaluation; IoTPapa has not benchmarked a model or tested a production deployment through this article.
