Connectivity and security shape every connected system. Range, power, bandwidth, interoperability and support must fit the environment. Security also includes the device's identity, updates, accounts, network access and the handling of collected data.

A sensor-to-application worksheet

Draw the device, gateway, controller, application and any remote services. Label which component sends the observation, which stores it and which can issue a command. A radio name alone does not describe that chain.

  1. Record the exact models, firmware, application protocol and credentials or supported identity method used by each connection.

  2. Evaluate the required range and traffic at the deployment location. Record timestamps, interrupted links and buffered observations.

  3. After restoring a connection, check identity, duplicate events and whether the application distinguishes old data from a current reading.

Interpret the result

Treat interoperability as a function supported by particular roles and versions. Keep update ownership and the documented recovery path in the network record. A single successful connection does not establish security or support for every advertised feature.

Keep a decision record

Save the requirement, exact models and versions, assumptions, observations, failures and next decision. Distinguish a documented specification from your own observed result. Leave unknown values unassessed rather than filling them with a score.
