SmartThings Now: check local control against your actual hub

Samsung’s October platform update creates a useful question: which controls keep working when your internet connection fails?

Samsung’s 6 October 2026 announcement introduces SmartThings Now in a redesigned Home tab and describes expanded local control. It says a phone and compatible hub on the same Wi-Fi network can communicate directly. The announcement’s footnotes list supported hub families; this is not a statement that every connected device works offline. Read Samsung’s announcement and footnotes.

Turn the claim into a household checklist

List the exact hub, app version, accessory model and control you need. Separate a local light switch command from remote access, notifications and services that may require the cloud. Keep a manual fallback for important controls.

A useful evaluation would repeat the same command with internet available and unavailable, recording the software versions and results. IoTPapa has not performed that test and makes no performance claim.
