Connected-device purchase checklist
Download a two-page fillable worksheet for one exact device and system. Record compatibility evidence, service dependencies, support, privacy, continuing cost and exit questions.
Practical resource · By Admin · Version 1.0 · Reviewed 20 October 2026.
Use one copy for each candidate you are seriously considering. The twelve questions help you distinguish what a dated source says, what you have actually tested and what still needs an answer. The worksheet records your research; it does not award a product score.

Record the exact decision
Start with one useful outcome
Name the task and the exact device variant. Identify the market, firmware and other system components before borrowing a claim from a family name or another generation.
Leave uncertainty visible
Each question starts as Unknown. Documented means you found a source. Tested means you have a recorded test. Gap means something important remains unresolved. Explain any Not applicable decision.
Keep ownership in the decision
Setup, accounts, recurring services, support, updates and exit all affect a useful purchase. Record the actual seller or provider and dated terms rather than assuming the manufacturer supplies every service.
Use the worksheet in four passes
1 · Identify the complete setup
Fill in the exact candidate and research date. Work through questions 1-6: outcome, item identity, roles, required functions, service dependency and physical/setup fit. Record source URLs or the next question in the evidence fields.
2 · Check continuing ownership
Work through questions 7-12: update/access policy, data handling, local support, return conditions, continuing cost and transfer/exit. Keep unknown costs unknown until you have a relevant quote or published term.
3 · Separate documentation from a test
Choose a status that matches the evidence. A source that lists a feature is documentation. A test needs your actual setup, action and observed result. The file does not turn either into a universal compatibility or security guarantee.
4 · Save the open questions
Review every Unknown or Gap before deciding. Save the completed copy in a location you control, with the sources or test notes needed to understand it. Revisit the record if the model, market, firmware or service terms change.
Fill it digitally or print it
Use a PDF reader that supports fillable text and choice fields. Save your own copy, enter an answer, then reopen it to check that the answer was retained. You can also print the two pages and keep longer source notes separately.
What happens to your answers
The PDF contains no action that submits answers to Wix. Its fields are for your own copy. Your PDF reader or chosen cloud-storage service may handle saved files separately. Do not put passwords or recovery codes into a purchase worksheet.
