Military & defence IoT: systems and governance
A non-operational overview of connected sensing, communications and asset systems, with reliability and accountability questions.
Connected sensing, communications and asset records can be discussed as systems-engineering subjects. This overview retains the original military IoT topic at a high level. It does not provide targeting, weaponisation, surveillance deployment instructions or claims of suitability for an operation.
Three system roles
Sensing produces observations; communications moves information; an asset system connects identity and events to an accountable record. Their reliability depends on the particular environment and integration. A shared product label is not evidence of an approved or suitable deployment.
Questions for responsible evaluation
Identify data ownership, authorised roles, provenance, interoperability, retention, maintenance and the consequence of interrupted or incorrect information. Keep the observation time separate from receipt time and explain the treatment of uncertain records.
Evidence and lifecycle
Product specifications, qualification evidence and operational approval are distinct. Record the exact equipment, versions and source date before making a claim. Include support, replacement and decommissioning in the evaluation. IoTPapa has not tested or certified any defence equipment through this overview.
