Automotive IoT
Explore vehicle apps, diagnostics, fleet telemetry and EV charging through model compatibility, installation and data ownership.
Vehicle connectivity must fit a particular vehicle and job. A phone interface, diagnostic reader, tracker and charger involve different installation, data and operating responsibilities.
Choose the vehicle task
Driver convenience
Verify the exact vehicle model, phone version and regional feature availability.
Diagnostics and telemetry
Distinguish observing vehicle data from changing vehicle behaviour.
Charging
Document the site’s electrical assessment, parking access and responsible installation provider.
Explore connected mobility by purpose
Connected cars and infotainment
Begin with the exact vehicle, model year, region and supported phone. A navigation display or connected app does not establish automated-driving capability.
Infotainment systems · Phone integration · Vehicle apps · Digital keys · In-car assistants · Connected navigation.
Diagnostics and maintenance
Identify which data a diagnostic device reads and whether it can also issue commands. Match the vehicle documentation, approved installation route and support arrangements before connecting equipment.
OBD adapters · Diagnostic platforms · Battery monitors · Tire pressure sensors · Predictive maintenance · Service telemetry.
Fleet and telematics
Trace the record from vehicle to operator: identity, timestamp, location, coverage gaps, access and the person responsible for an exception. A moving marker alone does not verify a complete trip or a response.
Fleet trackers · Driver monitoring · Dash cameras · Fuel sensors · Telematics platforms · Fleet compliance tools.
EV charging and batteries
Separate the vehicle connection, charging station, site power assessment and management service. A protocol label does not establish electrical suitability or that every advertised feature is implemented.
Home EV chargers · Commercial chargers · Charging networks · Load management · Battery management · Vehicle-to-home integrations.
Micromobility and two wheelers
Assess the exact vehicle and accessory, weather exposure, charging and physical installation. Keep tracking, locking and connected displays distinct from riding protection or vehicle approval.
Connected scooters · Electric bikes · Motorcycle trackers · Smart helmets · Bike locks · Shared mobility systems.
Transport systems
Start with the operator’s service task and who owns each feed. A passenger display, ticketing system and vehicle telemetry service need different availability, access and maintenance arrangements.
Rail telemetry · Bus tracking · Public transport ticketing · Marine telemetry · Aviation ground systems · Traffic integrations.
Autonomy and vehicle data
Distinguish connectivity, driver assistance and automated driving by their actual functions and conditions of use. Check the manufacturer’s current instructions and driver responsibilities for the exact feature.
ADAS sensors · Vehicle gateways · V2X systems · Autonomous vehicle software · Over-the-air updates · Vehicle subscriptions.
A practical example
For a fleet tracker pilot, record one representative route, coverage gaps, delayed uploads and the operator’s response. Treat trip records as location data requiring controlled access; a map marker is not a complete operating workflow.
Questions to resolve
- Is the connection read-only or can it issue commands?
- What is recorded outside network coverage?
- Can the device and service be transferred when the vehicle changes?
Use the evidence
The category map describes technologies and product types. It does not establish that a particular model is available, tested or compatible. Check the exact model, region, documentation and support arrangements before buying.

Primary sources and scope
NHTSA: automated vehicle safety distinguishes assistance and automation responsibilities. Its US context is not an Indian vehicle approval. Open Charge Alliance: OCPP overview identifies communication between a charging station and its management system; check protocol version, implemented features and evidence separately. This category is an editorial map, not an installation specification or a tested deployment.
